The restoration plan for Spout Spring Branch at Buddy Hays Park included a variety of improvements designed to enhance the health, appearance, and long-term stability of the stream. Planned features included installing large boulders to help reduce erosion and protect streambanks, adding structures to improve stream stability, and creating safe public access points to the stream. Additional improvements strengthened the surrounding streamside area, making it safer and more inviting for people to interact with and enjoy the stream while also supporting environmental goals and recreational use.
The Watershed Conservation Resource Center (WCRC) successfully completed the project by designing, installing, and implementing effective Best Management Practices (BMPs) to ensure compliance with Arkansas Water Quality Standards. Throughout the project, BMPs were carefully selected and installed to minimize pollutant discharges while considering site-specific factors such as soil conditions, flow characteristics, the level of disturbance within the waterbody, and the designated use of the waterbody. Measures were also implemented to minimize channel and streambank erosion and scour in the immediate vicinity of the work area. These efforts helped protect water quality and stabilize the project area following completion.
